Healthcare shouldn't stop at the clinic door
In 2022, in Nairobi, Ikechukwu Anoke watched someone in his community delay seeking care for weeks — not because care didn't exist, but because the nearest clinic was a long matatu ride away and the cost of missing half a workday was too high. That observation became the founding question of Zuri Health: what if a licensed doctor could reach you by the phone you already carry?
We are not a hospital. We are the connection between the patient who has a phone and the licensed practitioner who can help — regardless of whether that patient is in Westlands or 80 kilometres from the nearest town.
The people behind Zuri Health
Ikechukwu Anoke
Co-Founder & CEO
Ikechukwu spent years working on healthcare access programmes across East Africa before co-founding Zuri Health in Nairobi in 2022. The recurring theme he saw: distance and cost kept people away from care long before any clinical decision was ever made. His focus at Zuri Health is the same as it was then — close the gap between the patient and the practitioner.
Amara Osei
Co-Founder & CTO
Amara comes from mobile engineering and health informatics. He designed Zuri Health's multi-channel architecture from the ground up — the part that makes it possible for a patient on an entry-level Android device, 2G data, to reach the same practitioner as someone on fibre in Nairobi. The WhatsApp and SMS channels are his.
Dr. Zawadi Mwangi
Head of Clinical Operations
Dr. Mwangi practised primary care in rural Kenya for several years before joining Zuri Health. She leads practitioner onboarding and sets the clinical standards for how consultations are conducted on the platform. Her lens on what a digital health service must get right comes from having worked without it.
What guides us
The rural patient first
Every product decision runs through one question: does this work for a patient 80 km from the nearest clinic on prepaid data? If not, we redesign it.
Platform, not authority
We facilitate the connection. The licensed practitioner makes the clinical judgement. We do not claim otherwise — and we make that boundary clear to every patient.
Built for the real network
WhatsApp and SMS are not fallback channels. For most of our patients, they are the primary channel. We build for that reality, not against it.
Independent and focused
Bootstrapped since 2022. We answer to our patients and the practitioners on the platform — not to investors with a growth-at-all-costs mandate.
